We’ve got answers!

How far from Waco does AllergyWaco draw patients?

Our regular patient catchment extends across most of Central Texas, including the I-35 North corridor (Belton, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, Gatesville, Hillsboro), the Waco suburbs (Robinson, China Spring), east of Waco (Mexia, Marlin), and south of Waco (Lorena, McGregor, West). Patients commute from up to 60 to 90 minutes for specialty care.

Why drive farther for an allergist?

Allergy care is unusual among medical specialties because regional environment determines what you are exposed to and what treatment patterns work. Our 45 plus years in Waco means deep familiarity with Central Texas pollen calendars, regional housing types and HVAC patterns, and the specific seasonal rhythms that drive flare-ups. National telehealth services can prescribe an antihistamine, but they cannot tell you the cedar count was 4500 yesterday and that is why you feel terrible. Local data drives better treatment, which is why patients drive in from across Central Texas.

Can I get my allergy shots done from a town outside Waco?

Allergy shots are administered in our Waco office because of the post-injection observation requirement. Patients across the region build the weekly drive into their schedule during build-up phase, then drop to every 2 to 4 weeks during maintenance. Sublingual drops are an at-home alternative that does not require office visits and works well for patients with longer commutes. Take the immunotherapy candidacy quiz to see which option fits your situation.

Are allergens different in regional Texas vs urban Waco?

Yes, sometimes substantially. Patients in east Waco and the Brazos River bottoms see higher mold pressure from sustained humidity. I-35 North corridor patients often have higher exposure to ranchland grass pollens. Western patients near the Hill Country see earlier and heavier cedar exposure. Our allergy testing identifies your specific trigger profile, and treatment is tailored accordingly.

Do you offer telehealth for regional patients?

Yes. Virtual allergy care is available for follow-up visits, medication adjustments, and many initial consultations. Skin testing and allergy injections require in-person visits, but a substantial portion of ongoing care can happen by video. Telehealth is particularly useful for patients commuting from Killeen, Temple, or other regional towns where the drive in is longer.
